Spiritual Direction

Spiritual direction is a time-honored spiritual practice that spans different religious faiths and groups. It involves meeting with a trained person to discuss one’s spiritual life. It is a contemplative and supportive process that helps you attend to the presence of the Divine in your life. In spiritual direction, we pause from the busyness of life, rest in the presence of the Divine, listen deeply to how the Divine is speaking to us, and respond in life-giving ways.

Individual Spiritual Direction

Individual spiritual direction is a conversation between a directee (you) and a spiritual director. Living faithfully can be challenging. The competing priorities, difficult decisions, and hardships can be overwhelming. Sometimes, it’s hard to navigate these ups and downs. That’s where spiritual direction comes in.

As your Spiritual Director, my sole purpose is to meet you where you are and walk alongside you as a conversation, listening, and discerning companion. You determine the focus of our conversation.

Group Spiritual Direction

Group spiritual direction is about coming together for a shared experience in giving and receiving direction.

Group spiritual direction offers the benefit of mutual discernment, support, and encouragement in the ups and downs of life. Together, participants in the group intentionally listen to God and each other while they look for the ways God is showing up in the lives of group participants.

I call these groups Soul Tending Circles, a beloved community focused on tending to our human spirits, our souls, in relationship to the one who creates and loves us.

Ready to get started?

Your next step is to contact me by phone, email, or using the Let’s Talk form. Be sure to indicate that you’re interested in Spiritual Direction. Next, we’ll schedule an initial consultation. This can be done by phone, using a platform like Zoom, or, where feasible, in person.

We’ll spend some time getting to know each other at the initial consultation. Then we’ll explore how the spiritual direction relationship works and what you hope to focus on in our conversations. I’ll answer your questions and provide more information to help us discern if a spiritual direction relationship is for you.

Let me answer some frequently asked questions:

Where will we meet? It is most helpful to meet in a quiet place, free from distraction. This can be in person, via a platform like Zoom, or we can talk by phone. I often meet people at Christ the King Lutheran Church (600 Walnut St., Cary, NC). We can certainly find a place that is convenient for both of us.

How long will our sessions last? We’ll meet for about an hour. Times can be adjusted to meet our mutual needs.

How many sessions will we have? This depends on what you want to talk about and how long you want to engage in the process. We can meet weekly, twice a month, or once a month.

What does this cost? The initial consultation is complimentary. We’ll discuss fees at the first session.
